ELECTION OF TEAMS
Using the final standings from the NB Men’s Player of the Year Challenge, Royale NB Ladies Player of the Year Challenge & the MCT Insurance NB Senior Men’s Player of the Year Challenge, two (2) Amateur Men, eight (8) Senior Men & eight (8) Ladies from the north & south regions will be selected to compete in a match play team championship. Team Captains, selected by the Golf NB Executive, will fill two (2) of the available positions on both the north & south teams, and will be responsible for assisting Golf NB in finalizing the remaining 16 positions on their respective teams.
HONORARY CAPTAINS / PLAYING CAPTAINS:
The honorary captains will be selected yearly by the executive committee and will be two (2) individuals who finished in the top 15 of the previous year’s player of the year standing, in their respective division(s).

NUMBER OF PLAYERS:
Including Honorary Captains, each team will consist of 18 players (2 Amateur Men, 8 Senior Men & 8 Ladies).
GEOGRAPHICAL DIVISION OF CLUBS:
The North/South geographical division is used. The dividing line will approximately run south of the Bouctouche Club, south of the Fredericton area clubs (excluding Oromocto, which would be in the south) through to the western boundary with St. Croix, Algonquin,and Herring Cove being in the southern region.
METHOD OF SELECTING PLAYERS:
Excluding the Honorary Captains, positions will be filled based on the final player of the year standings in the NB Men’s, MCT Insurance NB Senior Men’s and Royale NB Ladies Player of the Year Challenges. In the event that one of the top players is not able to play in the competition, his/her position will be offered to the next person on the final player of the year standings and so on until the 18 players are selected. All players (juniors, seniors) are eligible for selection; the only criteria being player of the year standings.
*Note: Should it prove difficult to finalize either, or both teams, Golf NB reserves the right to expand its search parameters and selection criteria in an effort to fill any remaining positions. Search parameters and selection criteria may be expanded to include players, or individuals, who have demonstrated the requisite golfing ability along with past support of Golf NB / Golf Canada and / or their home club(s).
OFFICIAL PRACTICE ROUND
All players are entitled to a practice round at the Club de Golf Memramcook Golf Club during the week prior to the event at the discretion of the host club. Please call 506-758-9242 to book a practice round. Competitors are entitled to only one complimentary practice round.
PLAYER MEETING
All competitors MUST attend the player meeting at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, October 1st at the Club de Golf Memramcook Golf Club. The pairings for both rounds on Saturday will be chosen by the playing captains at this time. The Golf NB Tournament Chair and Rules Chair will address important tournament information including local rules, the pace of play policy, and code of conduct. This is also an opportunity for competitors to ask questions regarding the championship. Dress for the player meeting is golf attire.
Day 2 matches will be set on Saturday evening following dinner.
FINANCIAL
Golf NB will pay the following costs for the players:

Sunday – Lunch - Clothing
A team sweater will be provided for each player and captain
*Note: Players will be responsible for their own accommodations.
FORMAT
MATCHES TO BE PLAYED:
- Saturday morning: 9 four ball bestball matches (18 Holes)
- Saturday afternoon: 9 alternate shot matches (18 Holes)
- Sunday morning: 18 single match play matches
RULES OF THE COMPETITION:
- Each of the 36 matches will have a weight of one point
- Any match which was halved will be considered halved and each side will be awarded one-half point.
- The defender will only have to earn a half in the matches to successfully defend the cup.
- Matches will only by counted if all matches in the flight, i.e. the 9 foursome matches or the 9 four ball bestball matches or the 18 singles matches, were completed. Provided, however, if any of the teams have acquired 18 points during the singles competition, the match will be considered won at that point regardless of a subsequent rainout.
STARTING TIMES
Starting times for the first round will begin at 8:30 am and be 10 minutes apart for the Best Ball portion. The starting times for the second round will begin at 1:30 pm and be 8 minutes apart for the Alternate Shot portion. The first starting time on Sunday for the final round will be at 9:00 am at 8-minute intervals.

PRACTICE FACILITIES
Practice Facilities at the club will be available to all tournament players for the duration of the event.
NOTICE OF WITHDRAWAL
If you find you cannot compete in the championship, you must officially withdraw from the event by contacting Golf NB at (506) 451-1324 or by email at tflinn@golfnb.ca. Entry fees will not be refunded after the application deadline without a medical certificate. Entry fees will be refunded, less a $25 administrative fee, if Golf NB is notified of a player’s intention to withdraw prior to the application deadline. If you do not officially withdraw, you may be subject to DISQUALIFICATION from future Golf NB and Golf Canada competitions.

Club Teams
- Only persons holding valid full year membership in a Golf NB Category I member club shall be eligible to play on a team. Membership shall be evidenced by a Golf NB / Golf Canada Membership card.
- A player may not be eligible during a particular year to play for more than one club. A player who is a member of more than one member club should declare prior to play of the first matches which club he will play for.
- The club team shall consist of a captain (who may be a playing or non-playing captain) and 16 players for each particular match. The club team does not have to consist of the same particular players for each match of the competition.
- Each team shall be divided into 5 handicap flights for each match as follows:

- During a particular competition season, a player may not play a subsequent match in a higher handicap flight regardless if his/her handicap factor between matches has increased to make him/her eligible to play in the higher flight.
Exception:An exception shall be provided for a player who plays at a lower flight because there are not sufficient players with proper handicap factors at the lower flight.
- Each club shall have full discretion to determine its team members for a particular match. It is recommended that where several club members wish to participate in the competition, the club use some form of competition to seed its members to play in the competition.
- Each Captain is responsible for submitting a full roster of team members to their opposition and Golf NB, prior to the playing of each match as directed in Appendix ‘A’ (Declaration of Captain(s) & Team(s).
Form Of Play
- Each inter-club match shall consist of 8 two-man matches as follows:

- The order of matches shall be by flight with the flight A match being match #1 and the flight E match being match #8.
- Pairings shall be determined by each captain simultaneously passing the order of his/her pairings to the other captain prior to the commencement of the match.
- Each two person match shall consist of 18 holes; the “front” nine shall be played four ball better ball format (See Rule 30); the “back” nine shall be played ” Pinehurst” format.
Pinehurst Format:The partners both drive on each hole and then each plays a 2nd shot with the other’s ball. After the 2nd shots, a choice is made regarding the ball with which the hole will be completed, playing alternate shots (See Rule 29), until the hole is completed.
- Each two person match within the flight shall be played “straight up” with no allowance for handicap strokes within the flight.
- Each hole of the match shall be worth 1 point so that each match is worth 18 points. The winner of the hole shall be credited with one point. A halved hole shall result in each side winning ½ a point.
- A team which scores 144.5 points or greater shall be the winner of the match.
- In the event that each team shall score 144 points, the participants in one of the 8 matches shall be selected by lot to participate in a sudden-victory playoff. The playoff shall commence on hole #1 and be played under the four-ball format.
