SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION
Golf NB annually awards University Scholarships to be used towards the cost of tuition at any recognized University or College. These awards include the “NBGA 50th Anniversary Scholarship” for male golfers, the “NBLGA 50th Anniversary Scholarship” for female golfers, and the “John Patrick Sears Golf Scholarship” which is open to both genders and is renewable annually. The NBGA invites applications from resident junior golfers who have demonstrated scholastic and golf ability over several years.

Please submit only one (1) application form. The Golf NB Scholarship Committee will consider all applicants for the scholarship(s) for which they qualify.
Successful recipients will be presented with their award at the NBGA Annual Golf Awards Dinner in the fall.
Award Criteria:
1. Academic Performance (40 Points)
Students currently attending high school and applying to enter a University or College:
An applicant’s transcript must show a Grade B or 75% average in each of the last two years of high school
Students currently attending University or College:
An applicant’s transcript must show a Grade Point Average 3.0 or 75%
2. Successful competitive experience at Club, Regional, Provincial, National and/or International level in golf (Value: 35 points)
3. Participation in extracurricular, community and other sport, activities, and giving back to the game of golf. (Value: 25 points)
Award Policies:
1. A University Entrance Merit Award is not renewable, but applicants may apply the following year for a John Patrick Sears award.
2. The John Patrick Sears Golf Scholarship program is renewable up to a maximum of four years of undergraduate study, subject to the recipient continuing to meet the award criteria.
3. Any award is contingent upon an applicant being accepted at a recognized University or College of his/her choice.
4. Consideration will be given to the applicants who have graduated or will be graduating from High School at the time of the application, provided all other terms of the award criteria are met.
5. Candidates will be judged on the basis of substantiated information contained in their application and support material. Applicants may be asked to appear before the Merit Award Committee.
6. In order to remain eligible for scholarship funding, recipients must maintain their status as an amateur golfer as defined in the Golf Canada Rules of Amateur Status. In the event of investigations surrounding alleged amateur status violations, scholarship funding may be withheld pending a final decision on the matter.

Three letters of recommendation giving details of the applicant’s club or school involvement are required to support the application. Letters must be sent to the scholarship committee by each of the following:
1) Home Club Representative (Head Professional, Golf NB Director, Club Manager, Club President or Board of Director)
2) High School Principal or Teacher or College Professor
3) Personal Reference

NOTE: A letter should accompany each application from the applicant outlining his/her academic and golf achievements. Golf NB is interested in your background and your objectives for the future. We want to know why you want to attend university, what you hope to achieve in life, and how you feel a scholarship will assist you.
Golf Canada Scholarship Awards
THE MARY ELLEN DRISCOLL SCHOLARSHIP
(awarded by the Golf Canada Foundation)
The Mary Ellen Driscoll Scholarship celebrates a life time of achievement in golf for Mary Ellen Driscoll . Among her many successes on the golf course are the following:
– Won the New Brunswick Junior title six (6) times (1953-1958)
– Winner of the Maritime Junior Championship three (3) times
– Won the New Brunswick Ladies’ Amateur twenty-five (25) times
– Won the Nova Scotia Ladies Championship six (6) times
– Won the New Brunswick Senior Ladies Championship twelve (12) times (1988-1996, 1999, 2000)
– Was a member of the New Brunswick Ladies Amateur team forty-one (41) times
– Was the 1965 CLGA Amateur runner-up
– Was the CLGA Senior Amateur runner-up in 1987
Crowning this impressive list of winnings is the fact that she has won her home club, Riverside Country Club’s championship twenty-eight (28) times. Furthermore, in recognition of her achievements she was inducted into the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame in 1987. She has very fondly been dubbed the “Queen of New Brunswick Golf”. The city of Saint John has also named her the “Athlete of the 2nd half of the century for Saint John”.
The Riverside Country Club also wanted to acknowledge Mary Ellen’s outstanding success on the golf course. Therefore on the occasion of her winning the New Brunswick Ladies Amateur Championship for the 25th time, the club incorporated the Mary Ellen Driscoll Scholarship Foundation Inc. Donations have been solicited from members of the club.
The scholarship of $1,000 per year will be awarded to a female golfer from New Brunswick for undergraduate or graduate study at a university of her choice.
Interested applicants should complete the application form, (please use the same application form as for any of the RCGA Scholarships). Indicate on the form that you are applying for the Mary Ellen Driscoll Scholarship.
