Idyllic Landscape on the Outskirts of Fredericton

Written by Dwayne Tingley

Chris Billings calls it the ultimate golf experience.

He also knows there is much more to the spectacular Kingswood Golf Course than its challenging and lush 18 holes and idyllic landscape on the outskirts of Fredericton.

“The golf course is exceptional and we have people from all over the world who have praised it,” said Billings, Kingswood’s director of golf.

“Beyond that, we offer a full entertainment package for our golfers and their families,” he added. “Now, with a first-rate hotel, we have become one-stop shopping for families who are looking for entertainment, facilities, restaurants and the best golf around. Families love it.”

The course offers 7,000 yards of scenic bliss, which was selected the best new course in Canada by Golf Digest in 2003. Golf Range Times and other publications have been raving about Kingswood ever since.

The Radisson Hotel opened at Kingswood last winter. It is the perfect compliment to the golf course as well as the Kingswood Entertainment Centre, which offers bowling, laser tag, an inflatable play zone and other family favourites.

The course remains the star attraction. It has been the site of the Canadian university golf championships twice as well as the Estabrooks Cup and the New Brunswick senior golf championships.

Maritime NHL stars as well as Fredericton’s Matt Stairs and Jake Allen have also called on Kingswood to host their charity tournaments annually.

The Cooke-Hunham-designed course features wide-open fairways with well-placed bunkers in a perfectly-groomed and eye-pleasing setting. Seasoned players and newcomers enjoy every second they are on the award-winning layout, which provides nervy tests for accomplished players and the opportunity to excel for newcomers.

Green fees are $79, but there is a twilight rate of $59 from 1-4 p.m. and super-twlight rate of $39 after 4 p.m.

The nine-hole Kingswood Executive course offers $25 green fees for adults and $15 for juniors.

Membership fees are $1,995 for unlimited adult and $1,595 for weekdays-only. The Kingswood Diamond membership fee is $2,795, which includes power cart, range, club storage and locker.

Junior membership rates are free with a paying adult member. Two-days-a-week associate membership are also available.

Sam Snead’s Oak Grill and Tavern serves up delicious meals and equally popular with golfers and non-golfers.

“We believe we have become the ultimate golf destination in the province and we’re always looking for ways to get better,”  said Billings, who is also the club’s PGA of Canada head professional.
