The late legendary Canadian Golfer Moe Norman won his second straight Canadian Amateur Championship in 1956 at the Edmundston Fraser Golf Club a year before turning professional.
Strategically located in the heart of scenic Edmundston, the Maritimes’ highest rated course, with its par 73, offers incredible challenges at each of its 18 holes, even for the most experienced golfer.
Designed by Albert Murray in 1926, this high-caliber course was selected to host the Canadian Amateur Championship twice. The elder trees which greet you as you arrive are your first glimpse of the course’s maturity.
Located close to the highway and all amenities, the Fraser Edmundston Golf Club also houses a restaurant and a pro shop to meet your every golfing need. Juniors are with you? We are one of the few clubs to offer a 5-hole course specifically designed for young golfers.

An Easy-To-Reach City Escape
Written by Dwayne Tingley
Henri Allain has returned to the Edmundston Fraser Golf Club and he’s expecting others will do the same.
Allain was a member of the club for many years before he had to move way for work, but he’s been back at the scenic par-73 layout since he retired in 2011. Allain served as the club president from 1998-2000 and he’s been given the title again.
“This has always been a special place to me and I love this golf club,” Allain said. “It has a friendly membership base and the course itself hasn’t changed a lot. It’s still a great challenge and a lot of fun to play.”
Allain is hoping his enthusiasm will play off. The course has introduced a special rate of just $299 for first-time members. The usual annual membership fee for adults is $885 annually.
“It’s no secret that Edmundston has been hit hard financially in the last few years and it’s made an impact on our membership numbers,” he said.
“We want to bring people back to the club,” he added. “It’s a great club and we’re trying to bring it back. It’s a great asset for our area and we want to make more attractive, especially to the younger people. A lot of people are working hard to bring the club back.”
Edmundston Fraser had about 230 adult members last year and Allain expects more than 300 new members to sign up this year. Once they get there, he’s confident they will stay for many years to come.
The course opened with nine holes in 1936 by the Fraser pulp and paper company. It was redesigned and rebuilt by architect Albert Murray with 18 holes in 1947. The 12th hole was redesiged by Darrell Huxhan.
“The course is in the middle of the city so that definitely makes it unique,” Alain said. “It’s easy to get to for everyone.
“The landscape is what makes it very special. It’s an old-style course with undulating fairways that force the players to play a wide variety of shots. You never play the same game twice because the terrain is so different. You need different shots and you have to use different clubs throughout the golf course.”
The course features four sets of tees, including the blues, which measure 6,694 yards. There are also whites at 6,284 yard, yellows at 5,644 and reds at 5,325.
“Being a par-73 also makes the course different from others,” Allain said. “It’s a gem of a course and it always has a way to remind the golfer that it cannot be taken for granted.”
Green fees for $35 for the shoulder season and $45 for the regular season.
The club hosted the Canadian Amateur in 1956, when it was won by legendary Moe Norman and the 2002 Amateur, won by Dillert Pruit, who played briefly on the PGA Tour and later served as a tour official.
Edmundston has also been the site of several New Brunswick championship tournaments.
“The big names who come here always give the course compliments,” Allain said. “They call it very challenging, but fair. We’re proud of our past and we’re optimistic about a bright future.”
