Gowan Brae Golf & Country Club Set to Host 2017 NB Ladies Four Ball
by Tyler Murphy – Golf NB
Golf New Brunswick`s (Golf NB) NB Ladies Four Ball Championships will be held on June 11th, 2017 at the Gowan Brae Golf & Country Club in Bathurst, NB.
The NB Ladies Four Ball will carry a field of 35 two-player teams in 2017.
In what is the largest Ladies Four Ball field since 2012, three time champion Paula Napke-Flanagan of the Miramichi Golf & Country Club has once again teamed with club mate Karen Flett as she looks for her fourth title in five years, while perennial contenders and reigning champions Leanne Richardson and Sandy Comeau of the Country Meadows Golf Club are in search of their sixth NB Ladies Four Ball crown in the 11 year history of the event. The youngest pairing of the tournament features past success as 2013 and 2014 champion Morgan Matchett teams up with 2010 champion Kristi Roach. With the deep and diverse field including many tandems from the host Gowan Brae Golf & Country Club, it should put together some good golf and provide another stiff test for the favored teams.
This will be the sixth time that the Gowan Brae Golf & Country Club is hosting the NB Ladies Four Ball after hosting it during the first five years of the event from 2007 through 2011. The course opened in 1958 as a 9 hole course, but expanded to an 18 hole course in 1962. Designed by Robbie Robinson, Gowan Brae is referred to as the “Pebble Beach of New Brunswick.” In the past, it has played host to four National Championship events, including the National Junior Girls Championships twice in 1992 and 2006. In September 2018, Gowan Brae will be host to the 2018 Canadian Men’s Senior Championship.
This year’s mixed and diverse field will continue to add to both the social and competitive aspects of this unique championship and will once again serve as the official kick off to Golf NB’s competitive golf season.
